Yogyakarta’s hotels have benefited from an uplift in hotel bookings over the past four months rising from 7.6% to 72.5% as a percentage of 2019 bookings. Bandung and Jakarta have also experienced significant improvements in hotel bookings, growing from 3.1% to 60.5% and 10.7% to 56.5% respectively since early May.

The clear laggard is Denpasar, the capital of Bali, where there has been only a small uplift in bookings from 3.3% in early May to 10.7% in early September. Until Indonesia’s borders open to international visitors, we don’t expect any sizeable shift in the booking rates for Denpasar over the next couple of months.
