“Lexington Is the Bourbon Destination You Need to Know About”.

by Brad Japhe

Known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” and the center of Kentucky’s Bluegrass region, Lexington should also be known as the “least expensive watering hole in the nation!”

According to EIU CityData, New York is the most expensive city in the nation when it comes to enjoying a glass of scotch or equivalent at the bar of a Hilton-style hotel. In 2018 it cost on average $32.50, up from $5.75 in 1990. It is followed by Minneapolis at $26.50 and Washington at $22.50.

The least expensive city is Lexington, KY where bourbon is clearly the favored drink? But what is really surprising is that its average price was only $6 in 2018, 442% less than in New York. And what is even more surprising is that it was $6.50 in 1998, the first year data was collected in Lexington. Data is available for seventeen US cities.

So next time you’re having a scotch at a hotel bar in Lexington or Miami or Boston, spare a thought for your colleagues in Los Angeles, Washington or New York who are paying top dollar for the same pleasure?
